Tasty Dishes

General


Una ración - a portion: Sometimes available as half portion - media ración

Una tapa - a taster portion: Often given free with a drink

Montadito - an open-faced sandwhich or toast topped with fish/meat/cheese: Often given free with a drink or at a very nominal charge

Bocadillo - a filled roll, usually quite large

Bacalao - Cod

Bonito
- Fish similar to tuna with milder taste

Cazón
- Dogfish: Usually marinated with lemon juice and garlic before frying.

Croquetas de Bacalao - Deep fried potato and cod dumplings

Pez de Espada
- Swordfish:

Pulpo a la Gallega - Octopus: boiled and garnished with paprika or chilli, rock salt and olive oil

Berenjenas Fritas - Deep fried slices of aubergine

Ensaladilla Rusa - Potato salad usually with tuna, hard-boiled egg and peas

Gazpacho - Cold tomato soup - recipe varies but can include bread, garlic, cucumber, green pepper, cumin....

Pimientos rebozados - Long, thin green peppers deep fried in batter

Pimientos asados - Roasted red and/or green peppers

Pipirrana - Refreshing, dressed salad of chopped green peppers, cucumber and tomatoes



Queso y Huevos/Cheese and Eggs



Huevos de cordoniz
- Quail's eggs usually served fried

Queso Añejo - Strongly flavoured cheese matured for at least a year

Tortilla - Spanish omelette made with potato
